HERE
IS MORE DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THE EVENT:
Field Day 2008 is June
28TH AND June 29th.
So much to do… so
little time to do it in.
The following items are part of field day. Please do your part
and choose one of these activities to do to show we are ready for
emergencies.
EMERGENCY POWER = 100 points
We run on generators during Field day because
we want to be sure that we have power without relying on the
commercial mains. Please volunteer to transport these generators to
and from the field day site. Also pickup gasoline to run them with.
MEDIA PUBLICITY = 100 points
We try to publicize our event to help the
public be aware of the resource amateur radio provides. Our club
Public Information Officer (PIO) KC8TVW, does an excellent job of
contacting the media to let them know we are operating. If you can
think of any suggestions to offer please see KC8TVW.
PUBLIC LOCATION = 100 points
We try to make ourselves obvious to the public
by setting up in a public place that allows the public top stop by
without invitation. The Wolcott House Museum Complex is a public
place.
PUBLIC INFORMATION TABLE = 100 points
We set this table up and stock it with
pamphlets and information about amateur radio for visitors to take
home with them. A table is needed to be set up with information
regarding ham radio on it. Band charts and information on what
amateur radio is should be available. We are also able to show some
short DVDs about ham radio too.
MESSAGE ORIGINATION TO SM OR SEC = 100 points
This allows us to make sure we know who our
section manager and/or section emergency coordinator is and that we
are able to communicate to them via NTS. Making out these messages
is not difficult to do. This is an easy 100 points
MESSAGE HANDLING NTS = 100 points
Sending messages via NTS gives us practice and
allows us to demonstrate our abilities at passing messages
independent of other recourses. If you have never made out a
radiogram I will be happy to assist you in doing so. We need to send
10 independent messages to get the 100 points.
SATELLITE QSO = 100 points
Performing this task is not an easy feat. Being
able to communicate and understanding how communications through
satellites may be beneficial in times of disaster helps us to
develop our emergency skills. Making a contact via satellite is not
easy but you have fun trying.
ALTERNATE POWER = 100 points
Setting up solar panels or another means of
power source other than gas driven generators allows us back up to
our power source. Setting up some solar panels and making 5 contacts
QRP is not a difficult task especially during field day. If you have
any alternate power device this is the time to try it out.
W1AW BULLETIN = 100 points
Copying this message is essential. During an
actual disaster the W1AW will broadcast messages for amateurs to
copy for updates about the countries status. We should be able to
copy them. Listening for and copying the message on the appropriate
frequency and mode at the prearranged times could not be easier.
TEACHING AND DEMONSTRATING ANYTHING ABOUT AMATEUR RADIO TO A
CLASS = 100 points
Field day is a good time to learn a few things
about electricity/electronics. Teaching a class (longer than a few
minutes) (More than one or two people) how to solder or how to
operate a mode or if you would like to do a
demonstration/presentation about amateur radio it may count towards
100 points. I would have to approve the class first. We like to
demonstrate these modes to help engage the public's interest and to
show off our talent in communications.
SITE VISITATION BY AN ELECTED OFFICIAL = 100 points
We invite the politicians to come to the site
to checkout amateur radio to show them that we are a reliable source
of backup communication. Do you know any elected public officials
who might be interested in visiting our field day sight?
FIELD DAY YOUTH PARTICIPATION
As always we try to introduce the young to
amateur radio to maybe spark an interest to keep amateur radio alive
and interesting. Anyone under the age of 18 who makes contacts will
earn us points.
GOTA (Get On The Air) STATION
This stations ‘ primary function is to give
hams who are not active to get on the air. It is also used to get
the youth and any interested person on the air, licensed or not. The
GOTA station needs to be manned by a newly licensed ham.
BAND CAPTAINS
I am in need of band captains to help
coordinate the frequency use.
If you would, please volunteer to undertake or
assist someone in one or more of these tasks.
If you want to know more about what a task entails I can help
you and explain what is needed. It gives amateur radio field day
a real purpose. Regardless of whether you have done any of these
tasks I can get you started and you will have fun performing them.
You will find it interesting and it gives us a mission to
accomplish.
June 28th and June 29th
at the Wolcott House Museum Complex in Maumee.
Looking forward to seeing you there. Stop by
and stay awhile. Don’t be afraid to help us make a couple of
contacts and experience FIELD DAY.

Phone. DX stations send operating class and the term DX
